The thought of going to a huge university come September is enough to fill up your mind with questions and worries for the entire summer. With virtually everything leaning towards unfamiliar territory, it’s understandable to be anxious. To help address this cause of unease, universities around the world—in certain countries—practice Frosh Week, a week of warming up to the new chapter in life.
Googling up Frosh Week does little in painting a picture of what Frosh Week really is for an incoming York University student. Each university has their own unique Frosh Week filled with events that are geared towards making friends and connections. Here’s a couple of reasons why you should join Frosh Week:
There’s only one time you can do it. Frosh week is exclusive only to incoming students. Whatever stories you hear from people after frosh week is just that, stories. Unless time machines can be bought at your local Best Buy store ten years from now, Frosh week is literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
It’s an opportunity to meet different people. University is a place to learn… and to meet people! While you can meet a person or two in your lectures and other school activities, this is the only week throughout your entire stay in university where it’s specifically designed to socialize and have fun.
There’s a ton of events for everyone! Frosh week isn’t just about parties. There’s plenty of events to pick and choose throughout the day for the week. A day at the beach? Check. Parties? Covered. Just some down time to sit down and just talk to your new friends? Included.
It will shape up how you experience university life. While fate may or may not exist, each interaction you do affects the next. Like chess, each turn gives both players plenty of options which affects the entire game. Do you want to expand your available options? Get to know as much people as you can. You don’t have to be best friends with everyone, don’t worry.
It’s fun! No matter how many parties you have lined up for the year, frosh week is going to be that week that you will remember for a long time. It’s that dry party where everyone can have as much fun while fully remembering everything and not regret the day after while scrolling through Instagram.
Whether you’re going to Frosh Week or not remains entirely up to you. If you decide to check out the next steps, check out YUStart.
